■ Abstract :

Metal is a traditional material, but it still plays a vital role in many industries, especially in the automotive and aerospace industries. The automotive industry requires lightweight alloys to improve fuel or battery efficiency through vehicle weight reduction, and the aerospace industry needs materials for extreme environments that can be used to build engines. New alloys have been designed to fulfill these needs using atomistic simulation, first-principles calculations, thermodynamic calculations, and machine learning. We designed lightweight magnesium alloys with high formability by investigating activating pyramidal II slip, grain boundary mobility, compression twin, and tension twin. A new lightweight aluminum alloy with high strength was also designed by machine learning and validated by experiments. For the aerospace industry, refractory bcc high entropy alloys with improved ductility were explored by calculating Pugh’s ratio and grain boundary energy. Finally, we created a strength prediction model for TRIP steel that can be utilized in various industries.
