■ Abstract : Perovskites are attracting great attention as next-generation photovoltaic materials based on their high power conversion efficiencies. Here, I introduce my recent studies on the photophysical origin of their outstanding device performances and design rules for future perovskite solar cells going toward the thermodynamic limits. First, the heterogeneity and anisotropy of charge carrier diffusion in polycrystalline perovskite layers are revealed by visualizing the 4D (x, y, z, t) charge carrier dynamics. That explains how perovskite solar cells could achieve efficient charge transport beyond the previous expectation. Second, the importance of electroluminescence for photovoltaics and role of photon recycling are introduced. That provide new design rules toward the efficient and radiative perovskite solar cells.
