■ Abstract : Additive manufacturing (AM) is a fabrication process that used digital information from a computer-aided design file to stack 2D layers of various materials to produce a 3D object, without requiring any part-specific tooling. AM technologies have attracted much attention in various fields such as medicine, automotive, aerospace, consumer, and other industrial applications. Although growth of technical market in ceramic AM is still much smaller than markets in both metals and polymers because there are still higher technology barriers, such as necessity of sintering process after AM process and difficulty of sintering shrinkage behaviors etc., than other materials and is consequently not fully established yet, ceramic AM is expected dramatic market growth (SmarTech Analysis expect growth of ceramic AM into a $4.8 billion revenue opportunity by 2030) because ceramic AM can promise geometric fabrication freedom, which cannot expect traditional ceramic forming techniques and consequent market enlargement. Our research group has developed unique technologies of both the multi-ceramic AM technology based in stereolithography with originally developed AM system and the ceramic AM process without sintering based in material extrusion since 2006. We also have tried to identify a need of ceramic AM through collaboration with various industrial companies. Current technological advances in ceramic AM will be introduced.
