Smart Textile Electronics and Nano Technology Convergence

Prof. Jong min Kim

Department of Engineering
 University of Cambridge

The first smart textile electronics systems integrated by various fibre based sensors, transistors, nano/micro emissive LEDs, energy storage, and wireless antenna will be presented as a form factor free textile like system with foldable, bendable, rollable and stretchable functions. Various fibre type electronic devices are woven into the smart textile electronic system by way of the conventional textile weaving technology and the advanced semiconductor technologies, according to the random system architecture. This will deliver the wider range of new applications based upon nano technology from the materials, processing, device architecture to system integration.

The future applications of this smart textile electronic system via nano technology convergence will be further discussed for applications such as Smart Home with ubiquitous nano sensor networks, nano emissive displays for AR/VR applications, form factor free indoor/ outdoor automotive display/ lighting systems, smart wearable electro-photonics systems in ambient assisted living and eco- friendly bio environments.
