Open Faculty Positions – Materials Science and Engineering at KAIST

 

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is seeking applications for faculty positions.

■ Qualifications and preferences

1. Qualifications

- Candidates should hold a Ph. D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field by the start of employment. However, candidates who are expected to obtain a doctorate degree before the starting date are still elligible to apply.

- Candidates should be able to teach courses in English. Not only research achievements but also teaching skills will be equally considered.

3. Reasons for disqualification

- A person falling under each subparagraph of Article 33 of the State Public Officials Act.

- A person whose civil rights have been suspended or deprived by law.

- A person who is disqualified from a physical examination.

- A person who has avoided military service obligations.

 

■ Selection Procedures

- 1st : Review of application packages

- 2nd : In-depth examination by the Department’s search committee

- 3rd : Seminar at the Department and interviews with faculty members

- 4th : Final appointment decision after the review by the Faculty Personnel Committee in the College of Engineering and by the Headquarters Faculty Personnel Committee

* Only applicants who pass each review process will be notified individually and invited to the next round.

- KAIST full-time faculty application form (prescribed form) including a list of major academic achievements, research statement and teaching statement

- Copies of five representative papers (applicants may provide additional papers if they wish)

- Three recommendation letters (only those who pass the initial screening of application packages will be asked for recommendation letters. Letters must be sent directly to msehead@kaist.ac.kr by recommenders.)

■ Additional notes

- Care should be taken not to reveal any personal information that may bias reviewers of application packages. Examples of the personal information include the names of schools attended, the region of the origin, physical appearance (photograph, physical condition) and marital status.

- When there is no qualified candidate, hiring will be postponed to the next round.

- The submitted documents shall not be returned to applicants. If the submitted documents contained false information, the appointment recommendation may be revoked.
