2025 Nature Conference : “Materials for AI, AI for Materials”

From February 5 to 7, 2025, KAIST DMSE successfully hosted the 2025 Nature Conference under the theme “Materials for AI, AI for Materials”, bringing together leading experts to explore the convergence of artificial intelligence and materials science.

The conference provided a platform for in-depth discussions on next-generation material development, AI-driven innovation in materials research, and their role in solving global challenges. Experts examined how AI can accelerate material discovery, optimize properties, and drive breakthroughs in energy materials, semiconductors, and sustainable technologies.


With 484 participants from 18 countries, the event facilitated active knowledge exchange and strengthened international research collaborations. By hosting this conference, KAIST reinforced its position as a global leader in AI-integrated materials science research, aiming to shape the future of sustainable and intelligent material solutions.


Notably, the conference was attended by 25 distinguished experts in the field, including key editors from Nature and its affiliated journals, such as Olga Bubnova (Chief Editor, Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering), Silvia Conti (Associate Editor, Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering), Kristina Kareh (Senior Editor, Nature), Stephen Shevlin (Senior Editor, Nature Materials), and Giulia Tregnago (Senior Editor, Nature Energy). Renowned researchers also took part in the event, including Andy Cooper (Professor, University of Liverpool), Michelle Simmons (Professor, University of New South Wales), Kristin Persson (Professor, University of California, Berkeley), and Huaqiang Wu (Professor, Tsinghua University), further enriching the discussions with their expertise.

This event marks a significant milestone in establishing KAIST as a hub for cutting-edge AI-materials research, with ongoing efforts to drive global collaboration and technological advancements in the field.
