1st day, ‘From Incheon to Tokyo’

We met at the Incheon international airport at noon. Before taking the plane, everyone had time to eat and shop in the duty free store. At 3:00, We departed for Narita airport. Next, we went to our accommodation at Yotsuya-Sanchome station. After arrival, we stopped by near convenient store, and bought some drinks and cup noodle for late-night meal. For the traveling days left, we slept early.

2nd day, ‘Free travel in two groups’ (Because members hoped different activities, we separated into two groups.)

Group 1

After spending one night at the hostel, we splited into two groups and enjoyed Japan freely. The first group left the hostel early in the morning and took the subway to Omotesando Street. Here we were able to fully experience Tokyo culture. The street scenery we encountered while walking around brunch cafes, several clothes stores, and famous coffee shops were different from Korean ones and had their own unique charm. From the evening, we went to Shinjuku and enjoyed the famous Japanese food such as Gyukatsu and Takoyaki, and enjoyed the night view of Tokyo from Tokyo Tower.

Group 2

The second team’s main goal was to enjoy famous and delicious food. First, we left to Sibuya to eat Kyukatsu. Then we went to Harajuku and walked to Omotesando which is similar with Myeong-dong of Korea. We walked through the streets and visited few stores such as ‘Apple’ and ‘Adidas’. In the evening, we ate rice bowl and soba noodles. After dinner, we visited the observatory in Tokyo City Hall and watched the night view. Then returned to our accommodation. Our members all were satisfied with Kyukatsu, rice bowl and soba noodles.

3rd day, ‘Exchange with MSE department of Tokyo Institute of Technology’

We visited Tokyo Institute of Technology, the principal purpose of this travel. Professors from the Graduate School of Science and Engineering welcomed us and introduced the institute. We had a great experience of touring laboratories there with guidance of the graduate students from the labs. It was quite impressive we could understand theories and procedures of the experiments conducted there thanks to the lectures in KAIST. Also, we could look around Tsubame, the world-class supercomputer operated by Tokyo Tech. In addition, we had lunch with graduate students there. By exchanging opinions in many fields with them, we could widen our perspective and make some favorable connections with them.

4th day, ‘DisneySea amusement park’

We spent a day at DisneySea. Tokyo Disney Resort located in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, just outside Tokyo, is divided into Disneyland and DisneySea. If Disneyland is an amusement park for festivals and sightseeing, DisneySea is an amusement park for attractions. DisneySea attracted an estimated 11 million visitors in 2016, making it the sixth-most-visited theme park in the world. Tokyo DisneySea has an overall nautical exploration theme to it. The theme park, built around Walt Disney’s movies and animations, was really beautiful. In addition to normal rides such as roller coasters, rides using advanced technologies such as 3D and 4D attracted attention.

5th day, ‘Final trip in Tokyo’

6th day, ‘The last day, returning to Korea’

As soon as waking up, we went to Narita airport because check-in time was early. Then, we stopped by gift shops and bought some snacks and chocolates lastly. At 5 : 00 PM, we arrived in Korea again as all members kept healthy. It was a very wonderful trip. We really aprreciate our professors and department office who helped us to enjoy this program.
