 Abstract:  

Exploratory synthesis of crystalline materials is a cornerstone of solid-state chemistry. Here, I will present a new class of binary vdW materials prepared by structure control within the framework of Pauling’s rules. These vdW crystals have the same chemical composition as known three-dimensionally connected compounds, but exhibit unique layered crystal structures. The proposed synthetic approach provides guidelines for a novel class of vdW materials with a broad range of structures and unconventional crystal symmetries for electrical and energy applications.
