■ Abstract :

All-solid-state thin-film batteries have gained significant attention as a promising solution for various energy storage applications due to their enhanced safety, stability, and high energy density. This development has enabled the fabrication of flexible and miniaturized devices for emerging applications such as wearable electronics and the Internet of Things (IoT).

In this study, we successfully fabricated an all-solid-state battery (V-ASSB) with a V2O5 cathode using the RF sputtering method. Our unique design of the electrode and electrolyte interfaces resulted in the highest reported capacity at 100C among V2Obased thin-film batteries. However, to further enhance the energy density, we employed a high-voltage LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4-δ cathode in a solid-state battery configuration. We investigated the ordering of cations (Ni and Mn) and oxygen vacancies (Vo) to optimize its performance.

Moreover, we are currently working on the development of a Ni-rich NCM811 cathode, which has the highest theoretical capacity of 960 mAh/cm3 among previously used cathodes. By incorporating this cathode, we aim to further improve the energy density of the batteries. Additionally, we explored a thin-layer coating technology using the facing target sputtering method on conventional NCM batteries. This approach allows us to stabilize the surface of the NCM cathode through a homogeneous, protective, and ultra-thin aluminum oxide (Al2O3) layer.

These advancements in all-solid-state battery technology, as well as the thin-layer coating technique, contribute to the development of high-energy-density thin-film batteries. They hold great potential for future emerging energy storage applications.
