Faculty Position Announcement: Materials Science and Engineering at KAIST

 

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at KAIST invites applications for tenure track/tenured faculty positions.

 

■ Recruitment

■ Qualifications

○ Applicants must hold a a terminal degree (PhD) in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field by the start of employment.

* Applicants who have not yet obtained their PhD must successfully complete their final thesis examination within 9 months from the date of application submission.

   A confirmation letter from their thesis advisor must be submitted

○ Applicants must be capable of teaching courses in English. Teaching ability will be considered equally alongside research achievements.

○ KAIST welcomes applications from women and international candidates.

 

■ Selection Procedure

○ 1st : Review of application packages

○ 2nd : In-depth examination by the Department’s search committee

○ 3rd : Seminar at the Department and interviews with faculty members

    ○ 4th : Final appointment decision after the review by the Faculty Personnel Committee in the College of Engineering and by the Headquarters Faculty Personnel Committee

* Only applicants who pass each review process will be individually notified and invited to the next round.

 

■ Application period

○ From August 13, 2025 to 18:00 (KST, UTC+09:00) on September 10, 2025

 

■ Required application documents

      ○ KAIST full-time faculty application form (prescribed form) including a summary of key achievements, plan of teaching and plan of research and consent to collection and use of personal information.

      ○ Academic and research achievements including academic journal publications, conference papers, invited seminars/lectures, research projects and etc.

      ○ Curriculum Vitae

      ○ Copies of five selected publications (applicants may provide additional papers if they wish)

      ○ Letters of recommendation (Only those who pass the initial screening of application packages will be asked for recommendation letters.

          Recommenders must send the letter directly to msehead@kaist.ac.kr)

- Submit a total of three (3) copies if applying for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor

- Submit a total of six (6) copies if applying for a tenured position or Full Professor
