Future Semiconductor Technology Laboratory

  • Six new members joined  ‘FuST’  laboratory this fall. As a result, a total of 16 researchers have gathered for one goal. The goal is to develop new materials, processes and devices for future semiconductor technology, especially using memristive device.
  • Lab orientation was held on 29th August in which every lab members shared some important values in the lab. Prof. Kyung Min Kim especially emphasized five things for future research, and paid attention to various opinion from students.
  • First of all, all lab members should be responsible in their works. Trust is the most crucial factor in a relationship, and it builds up when each lab members fulfills his or her work with the best responsibility. World-leading research can be done on a trust-based strong relationship between colleagues. Subsequently, he emphasized that researchers could enjoy doing a research and study as a series of courses and have  ‘active communication’  between members. Doing a research is a tough work in which we go through many failures and hardships. Experiment data might be the result that we didn’t expect at all, and we might not know why it is happened in this way. Nevertheless, all we can do will be just to try, observe and interpret again and again. However, we could enjoy process itself if we try to solve a problem with members via active communications.
  • The fourth and the last one are to do your best and  “always to refine yourself”. As a growing researcher, all members will be carrying out a variety of works such as fabrication, measurement, circuit design and eventually writing a research paper. In those processes, we need to do the best in order to grow our competence the most for our next research.
  • The famous biologist, Edward Wilson, said that  ‘Within groups, selfish individuals will defeat altruistic ones. However, in conflict, groups of altruistic individuals will defeat groups of selfish individuals.’  in his book. After finishing lab orientation, I thought that I should be an altruistic person first who devote to help other members carry out their works. And ultimately, the entire lab becomes a group of altruistic individuals which could defeat a group of selfish individuals. The five things we shared today will be a good milestone for me, and I bet other members felt the same way. Thank you all very much.
